Commissioner Günter Verheugen awarded FIDEN Prize 2007

On 27 November 2007, Hans Ziegle, President of FIDEN, in the presence of the board of directors, awarded Commissioner Günter Verheugen, Vice President of the European Commission, during a joint dinner in Brussels this year's FIDEN Prize for his merits in favour of the interests of small and medium-sized enterprises.

This prize is awarded by FIDEN each year to prominent figures from politics and economy who show special commitment to companies in Europe, which is also directly and indirectly beneficial to the industrial cleaners sector.

In his congratulatory speech, President Ziegle pointed out various projects of the European Commission in favour of companies which the award winner helped substantially to initiate and promote, such as the Charta for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, the creation of the position of an SME delegate, an SME platform, and the Oslo Agenda, which are aimed at boosting entrepreneurial spirit. In his acceptance speech, Vice President Verheugen mentioned especially the economic and social relevance of the industrial cleaning sector in Europe and gave information about the present SME policy of the European Commission which in future will pursue an even greater reduction of red tape and unnecessary legislation for the SME.
